Shopping, Drama and Stationery
I went on a labor day/birthday shopping expedition at Short Pump Town Center. I got a new Sweater from Express and a few tank tops. Also went to Ulta and picked up the “on a clear day skin system” by philosophy. I also think that I might have finally found a shampoo that works for my hair type.
On the morning of my shopping expedition my friend Emily and I went to a café near my place. The address is 700 West Main Street, I wish that I wrote down the name because they have great cookies. Across the street-ish from our favorite restaurant ever, Zinc Bistro (420 Main).
Right now in the studio we are working on a new stationery collection. Right now the project is in the mock-up stage, if things turn out according to plan we will post pictures later. Also working on arranging an exclusive sample sale for a special brand that I can’t name. More details later.
This is a behind the scenes video of a photo shoot Ms. Bee just worked on for the cover of Washington Post Magazine. I love any Korean artist from DC!
Urban Textures
As I traverse the unemployment landscape I frequently remind myself that the most important part of being an artist (in my opinion) is having a unique perspective. So I took my camera with me on a walk one day as I went around New York City, around my neighborhood and on the subway and to a job interview, and I captured some “urban textures”.
The idea of taking these types of pictures certainly isn’t original (I just saw a blog post the other day on Build Blog about urban textures in San Francisco, actually). But walking around with this mindset actually helped me have a different perspective of my walk: yes, I was going to a job interview, but I was also on a texture safari. The most fun I had on this safari was looking up and taking pictures of the ceiling – it’s like a whole unexplored world up there!
One winter I was designing and hand printing my own fabrics and I often looked around me for inspiration, instead of trying to come up with designs in my head. I can think of so many possibilities with these textures, from literal translations to abstract inspirations. Take it where you will!

This Week at Paula Hoffman Design
Things are finally under control here at Paula Hoffman Design. This week we will be in the studio mostly. Tomorrow I might have to step out to check out the new markdowns at the anthro here in c-ville. I also need to stop by Lynn Goldman studio @ Barracks Road. If anybody is in the market for some awesome jewelry I highly recommend them. Amy is my favorite sales girl if you get a chance to go.
In an effort to make at least 1 interesting post a day I have recruited a few of my closest friends to contribute. Tomorrow Robin is going to have a great article to share with us. I can’t wait to see it!
Today at Paula Hoffman Design
Today was a great day here at the studio. Finally got around to a lot of things that have been on our list.
Talked to Ms. Bee and had a lunch date on the phone.
Paula also finally got a moment to play fetch with Teddy outside in the rain. Also got a chance to see Nicky Moon, one of our good friends here in Charlottesville. If anybody needs a great dog walker she’s your girl.
And last but not least. An adorable picture of Harry sleeping in the official Paula Hoffman Design Nap Chair.
Welcome
Things around here have been busy busy busy.
I was going to try to go to DC tomorrow but I think that it might not work out. Sorry to all my LMO buddies and Ms Bee.
Working on some fun things for an old client. She’s so nice to work with and easy-going. Love it!
Still waiting to hear from my design friends who are looking for work. E-mail me if you need to get in touch.
